Risk Assessment and Analysis Webinar Series - FREE WEBINAR: Part 1 - How to Use a Risk Matrix to Assess and Visualize Risk!

The first in a 3-part series of webinars on risk assessment and analysis  processes that can be used for quality, health & safety, and environmental management systems.

This 1-hour, Part 1 webinar, will present an example of a risk matrix tool that will take the assessor on a journey that will help provide a means to identify the likelihood and consequence of the risks they wish to better understand.

Part of a functioning risk assessment and analysis process is the ability to assess risks through a risk matrix.

What is a risk matrix? The risk matrix, often also referred to as a risk diagram, is a tool used to help visualize the risk in order to help the assessor determine the severity potential of the risk and its potential to cause an undesirable effect or consequence.

The key concepts that will be covered include:

  • Likelihood,
  • Consequence,
  • Risk categories,
  • Action priority.

Upon completion of this webinar, the participant will be able:

  • To understand the basic principles behind a risk matrix and how it is used when assessing risks, real, or perceived, that a company may face.
  • Compile a risk matrix that is specific for your company.
  • Assess risk in terms of likelihood and consequence to identify the order of change based on the overall risk score assessed to the risks that have gone through the risk matrix.

The value of this webinar will aid in developing further:

  • Problem-solving skills
  • Critical thinking awareness
  • Risk management control priority recognition

Presenter: Duncan Hawkins, Manager, Quality Assurance and Process Development, PROPAK Systems Ltd.

Duncan has over 27-years of experience in a combination of manufacturing sectors ranging from oil and gas, transportation, plastics, and industrial electrical working in both occupational health and safety, and quality management. Additionally, having worked in Alberta for a Certifying Partner in the Partnership in Injury Reduction (PIR) as a course and program facilitator, lead auditor and audit reviewer, compliance representative serving the manufacturing sector, and Senior Safety Advisor, Duncan brings a vast array of ideas and approaches to meeting the requirements in ISO 45001/ 9001.

Disclaimer: The risk matrix offered in this webinar is only an example of a risk matrix and is not to be confused with a mandated risk matrix offered by the AAC. Although there are various approaches for assessing risk through a risk matrix, it is important for a company to use a matrix that can meet their needs while also ensure risk can and will be assessed consistently through the matrix in order to lay the foundation for continual improvement opportunities within the functioning management system.
